Amikacin 500mg

- Amikacin sulfate injection is indicated in the treatment of serious infections due to susceptible of Gram-negative bacteria.
- Used in conjunction with cephalosporin, penicillin and other antibiotics. 
- Treatment of serious complicated and recurrent urinary tract infections caused by susceptible gram-negative bacteria, including -Enterobacteriaceae or P.seudomonas aeruginosa. 
- Treatment of infections caused by Nocardia, Rhodococcus equi.

Dosage and administration
• Admistration
Administer by IV infusion or IM injection.
IV infusion
- For adults: IV solutions are prepared by adding 500 mg to 100-200 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride, 5% dextrose, or other compatible IV solution. An appropriate dose is administered by IV infusion over 30-60 minutes.
For pediatric patients: the volume of infusion fluid depends on the patient's needs, but should be sufficient to allow an infusion period of 1-2 hours in infants or 30-60 minutes in older children.

• Dosage
- Adults:
+15 mg/kg daily given in 2 or 3 equally divided doses (i.e., 5 mg/kg every 8 hours or 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours).
+ Once-daily regimen: 15 mg/kg once daily has been used. Daily dosage should not exceed 15 mg/kg or 1.5 g. 
- Pediatric Patients:
+ An initial dose of 10 mg/kg is given then it is followed by 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours.
- Patients with renal impairment: Dosage adjustment is necessary.
